We have an exciting opportunity for a Grounds Maintenance Operative to maintain and enhance Saffron’s open spaces, green infrastructure, and boundary security by undertaking grounds maintenance and fencing installation/repair duties to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Maintain grassed areas, hedges, shrub beds, and green spaces to recognised standards. 
  • Operate powered hand tools and machinery (brush cutters, hedge cutters, blowers, ride‑on mowers). 
  • Undertake plant protection product applications, garden clearances, and watercourse management. 
  • Install, repair, and maintain a range of fencing systems (wood, chain-link, palisade, post-and-rail, decorative etc.), gates, and gate furniture to agreed standards. 
  • Dismantle and dispose of damaged or redundant fencing safely and responsibly.
  • Carry out site preparation, including measuring, setting out, groundworks, excavation, installing supports, levelling and reinstating surfaces, and safe use of tools.

Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Educations and Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Grounds Maintenance, Horticulture, or Construction related qualification (E)
  • NPTC PA1 + PA6 (D) 
  • Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross‑cutting (City & Guilds NPTC) (D) 
  • CAT & genny training (D) 
  • Full, valid driving licence with B + E trailer entitlement or equivalent (E) 

Experience:

  • Experience in all aspects of grounds maintenance, green space management, and use of powered tools (E) 
  • Proven experience in fencing installation, repairs, and associated groundwork (E) 
  • Experience operating ride‑on mowers and various hand/power tools (E) 
  • Experience working outdoors in varying/extreme seasonal conditions (E) 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong practical and problem‑solving abilities (E) 
  • Ground skills: turf care, hedge management, pruning, plant ID and basic planting techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team (E) 
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements (risk assessments, manual handling, safe tool use) (E) 
  • Ability to read site plans, measure and set out work (D) 
  • Excellent time management and ability to prioritise workload (E) 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills (E) 
  • Able to use mobile devices for emails, workload management, apps, and MS Teams (E)
